Basic Capital Closes $25 Million Series A Funding Round Led by Forerunner and Lux Capital
We're thrilled to announce the successful closing of our $25 million Series A funding round, led by Forerunner and Lux Capital. This marks a pivotal moment in our mission to modernize retirement savings and close the wealth gap for American workers.
This investment brings together an incredible group of partners who share our vision. Existing investors SV Angel and Box Group joined the round, alongside new investors HOF Capital, Inspired Capital, and Westbound Equity Partners.
Why This Matters
For 40 years, the engine of 401(k)s has remained largely unchanged while American innovation has created extraordinary financial prosperity. The lack of innovation in how workers save for retirement has prevented millions from accessing wealth-building opportunities that could transform their financial futures.
While consumers have have been extended credit to buy everything from Coachella tickets to burritos, they have not been given the opportunity to finance financial markets participation.
Basic Capital is changing that. We're the first and only 401(k) platform that allows participants to finance assets and access alternative investments.
The Path Forward
President Trump's recent executive order "Democratizing Access to Alternative Assets for 401(k) Investors" recognizes that "more than 90 million Americans participate in employer-sponsored defined-contribution plans, yet the vast majority of these investors do not have the opportunity to participate in the potential growth and diversification opportunities associated with alternative asset investments." The administration is actively working to remove barriers that have denied Americans access to the same investment opportunities available to the wealthy and to institutions.
This regulatory support, combined with capital markets opening to retail investors and fintech infrastructure maturing to support complex flows at scale, creates an unprecedented moment for our approach. What would have been prohibitively complex to build just a few years ago is now technically feasible at scale.
As Peter Hebert from Lux Capital noted, "The Basic Capital team has developed a novel solution to help everyday Americans finance investment, rather than consumption." This investment, combined with these emerging policy changes from Washington, D.C., represents a huge win for American workers as retirement plans finally enter the 21st century..
Our Mission Continues
This investment is just one step in our larger mission to revolutionize retirement savings and ensure every American worker has access to the tools they need to build long-term wealth. With the support of our investors and partners, we're bringing retirement plans into the modern era where they belong.
The future of retirement is here, and we're just getting started.
